Frederick Walter Shepherd

Shepherd, Frederick Walter son of Mrs. A. Shepherd and the late Mr. Moses Shepherd, was born at Bristol, and educated at the Newport Intermediate School. In 1904 he joined the old established business of house painters and decorators, of which his father was the proprietor. Later, on the death of his father, the business was formed into a private limited company, of which Mr. F. W. Shepherd became a director and general manager. He has maintained, and, indeed, enhanced the reputation of the firm, and it is today one of the premier houses for high class interior and exterior decoration work, with a large and influential connection throughout the West and South Wales. Mr. Shepherd is a member of the Newport Chamber of Commerce and the Newport Chamber of Trade. He is also a member of the Y.M.C.A., being chairman of the house committee, and has worked arduously and successfully in this connection. He is an all round athlete, having played hockey for Newport, is captain of the Y.M.C.A. hockey team, is a good shot, capable cricketer, and still holds the one mile cycle record for the Intermediate School. 2min. 27sec., won at the age of 16.
